(Photo © Joseph Marzullo) | The Ector Theatricals production of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd, which was to have starred Tony Award winners Betty Buckley and Shuler Hensley, has been canceled, reportedly due to a lack of finances. The show had been scheduled for a run at the Ector Theater in Odessa, Texas from July 7 through 24. No replacement production has yet been announced.
In related news, Hensley is now set to star in The Great American Trailer Park Musical, which will begin performances on August 20 at Dodger Stages. Kaitlin Hopkins, Linda Hart, Wayne Wilcox, and Marya Grandy will co-star in the show, which is being produced by Jeffrey Richards and Jean Doumanian.
According to Buckley's website, she is scheduled to give a concert at the Ector Theater on September 24. She will also perform as part of the Ravinia Festival's cabaret series on August 28 and 29.
