Works by Jason Grote, Alix Lambert, et al. Featured in The Civilians’ R&D Group Play Reading Series

Acclaimed New York-based theater company, The Civilians has announced the initial programming and schedule for its inaugural R&D Group Reading Series featuring works-in-progress by the members of their newly-formed Research and Development group. Readings will take place at 520 Eighth Avenue, 3rd Floor, all with a start time of 7pm.

Public readings will include: Jason Grote’s Safe in Heaven Dead, directed by Jesse Jou, and about the Beat writers in 21st-century America (May 19); Don Nguyen’s Sound, directed by Donya K. Washington, and interweaving the story of a deaf couple with Alexander Graham Bell’s search for a cure for deafness (May 23); Mia Chung’s Page Not Found, directed by Mia Rovegno, in which three of “the best and the brightest” prepare to take their places in life after school (May 24); and Alix Lambert’s Crime, USA, directed by Birgitta Victorson, based on interviews with criminals, cops, crime writers, and more.

Additional readings will include Quincy Long’s Church Laugh, Samuel D. Hunter’s The Few, and Jackie Sibblies Drury’s Untitled Photo Project.
