Tony Award winners Barbara Cook and Brian Stokes Mitchell will join previously announced stars Michael Feinstein, Cheyenne Jackson, Brian d’Arcy James, Idina Menzel, Anika Noni Rose, and Ashford & Simpson at the New York Pops’ 26th Birthday Gala, to be held at Carnegie Hall at 7pm on Monday, April 27. Liz Smith will host the concert evening, which will also feature a special appearance by a surprise celebrity guest.

The evening will honor the popular cabaret space, Feinstein’s at Loews Regency on its tenth anniversary, celebrating both Feinstein, who curates the space, and Loews Hotels Chief Executive, Jonathan Tisch. The event will also include a salute to New Amsterdam Rediscovered, a joint Dutch-American initiative celebrating the 400th anniversary of the exploration of New York Harbor and the Hudson River.

The New York Pops will be conducted by Steven Reineke, and the performance will mark the world premiere of the American River Suite written by Stephen Flaherty with lyrics by William Schermerhorn, dedicated to Henry Hudson’s historic voyage, and sung by Menzel and Rose.

Joining the orchestra will be 20 junior high school-aged students from The New York Pops’ Salute to Music who will perform “Conjunction Junction” and “Figure Eight” with Schoolhouse Rock composer Bob Dorough. Kids from the Ronald McDonald House of New York City will also join the orchestra to showcase their rock band talents.
