Rosie Perez to Be Honored at PFLAG’s Straight for Equality Awards Gala, Michael Feinstein, Wilson Cruz to Perform

Michael Feinstein and Wilson Cruz are scheduled to perform at PFLAG’s annual Straight for Equality Awards Gala to be held on Monday March 14 at the Marriott Marquis Times Square. Carol Leifer will host the event, which will raise funds for the organization’s national outreach and education projects.

In addition to the entertainment, the benefit will feature the presentation of the Straight For Equality in Entertainment award to Broadway star and Oscar noinee Rosie Perez.

Other honorees will include champion college wrestler-turned-coach Hudson Taylor, who will receive the Straight for Equality in Sports award, and author Charlaine Harris, who will receive the inaugural Straight for Equality in Literature award. In addition, MetLife will receive the Straight for Equality in Business award, to recognize the company’s continued commitment to full GLBT inclusiveness and equality in the workplace.

Perez’s Broadway credits include The Ritz, Reckless, and Frankie and Johnnie in the Clair de Lune. She received an Academy Award nomination for Fearless. Among her other films are Do The Right Thing, White Men Can’t Jump and Pineapple Express.
