Donna Murphy to Star in City Center Encores! Anyone Can Whistle

Two-time Tony Award winner Donna Murphy will join the previously announced Tony Award winner Sutton Foster in the City Center Encores! production of the 1964 musical Anyone Can Whistle by Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents, to run April 8-11. Tony winner Casey Nicholaw will direct the production, which will feature musical direction by Rob Berman. Additional casting and creative team will be announced shortly.

Murphy, who will play Mayor Cora Hoover Hooper, won Tony Awards for her performances in Passion and The King and I. Her other Broadway credits include Lovemusik, Wonderful Town, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, The Human Comedy and They’re Playing Our Song. She played Phyllis in the City Center Encores! production of Follies.

Foster, who will play Fay Apple, won the Tony Award for Thoroughly Modern Millie and has appeared on Broadway in such shows as Shrek the Musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, and Little Women. She will appear at the Cafe Carlyle in June.
