Stephen Sondheim Set for April 21 Symphony Space Appearance

Stephen Sondheim will take part in a public conversation about his work in conjunction with the previously announced April 21 performance of LIAISONS: Re-Imagining Sondheim From the Piano at Symphony Space. Mark Eden Horowitz will moderate the discussion.

The performance, devised and performed by pianist Anthony de Mare, will consist of 17 new works –15 of which are world premieres — for piano that are inspired by Sondheim’s songs for theater. The participating composers are Mason Bates, Derek Bermel, William Bolcom, Kenji Bunch, Ricky Ian Gordon, Jake Heggie, Fred Hersch, Ethan Iverson, Gabriel Kahane, Tania Leon, Ricardo Lorenz, Paul Moravec, David Rakowski, Steve Reich, Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR), David Shire, and Mark Anthony Turnage.

In addition to the performance and conversation with Sondheim, the event will feature brief composer panels moderated by Laura Kaminsky.
