Ellen Stern will write a biography of artist/caricaturist Al Hirschfeld, according to a report in The New York Times. The book, to be published by the Sarah Crichton Books imprint of Farrar, Straus and Giroux, is scheduled for publication in 2015.

During his career, Hirschfeld, who died in 2003 at the age of 99, captured more than 7,000 Broadway and Hollywood personalities in his caricatures. In recognition of his achievements, Broadway’s Martin Beck Theatre was renamed for the artist in the same year.

Stern profiled Hirschfeld in 1987 for GQ. Her writing has also appeared in New York and The Daily News. In addition, she is author of Gracie Mansion: A Celebration of New York City’s Mayoral Residence.
