BMI’s Jean Banks Has Died

Arts administrator Jean Banks has died after a battle with lung cancer. She was 77.

Banks was senior director of jazz and musical theatre at BMI, a position she held from the mid-1990s. In this capacity, she also served as the administrative head of the BMI-Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop. She had joined the organization in the mid 1970s.

Additionally, Banks was an officer and director of the BMI Foundation for over a decade. She was elected to the Foundation’s board in 2000 and served as the Secretary until her retirement in 2011.

Prior to joining BMI, Banks was executive secretary for the New York office of Seven-Arts Productions and worked for a time at ABC Productions.

A viewing will be held in New York on Tuesday, February 7, 5-9pm, at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel, located at 1076 Madison Avenue. A memorial will be held on March 8 at the Snapple Theatre.

She is survived by her husband.
