NYC’s Ohio Theatre to Close on August 31

The Ohio Theatre, located at 66 Wooster Street, will close on August 31, ending a 29-year history of producing and presenting work. The new landlord has issued official notice and no further negotiations are scheduled. The theater is currently investigating options as to how it will continue its work, including the annual ICE Factory series, in both the short and long term.

Among the artists who have had the beginnings of their careers at the theater are Tony Kushner, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Eve Ensler. In 2002, the Ohio Theatre received the Ross Wetzsteon OBIE Award, in recognition of its sustained artistic excellence and contributions to the theater community.

The theater is currently home to a production of Charles Mee’s Fetes de la Nuit, and will continue its programming through August.
