Barbara Cook, Harvey Fierstein, Boyd Gaines, Chita Rivera, et al. to Honor Jerry Bock at American Airlines Theater January 24

The life of Jerry Bock will be celebrated at Roundabout Theater Company’s American Airlines Theater on Monday January 24 at 2:30pm. The Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer died on November 3. He was 81.

Among the speakers and performers scheduled to appear are Kate Baldwin, Brigid Brady, Susan Cella, Barbara Cook, Harvey Fierstein, Boyd Gaines, David Garfield, Alan Gruet, Todd Haimes, Sheldon Harnick, Paul Hecht, Tim Jerome, Hal Linden, Joe Masteroff, Howard McGillin, Brad Oscar, producer Stuart Ostrow, Austin Pendleton, Lonny Price, Harold Prince, Chita Rivera, Chris Sarandon, Richard M. Ticktin, Rachel Ulanet, Tony Walton, Sherman Yellen and Bock’s daughter Portia. Michael Montel will stage the event.

Bock earned Tony Awards for both Fiddler on the Roof and Fiorello!, which also earned a Pulitzer for the composer and his collaborator, Sheldon Harnick. Among their other musicals are The Body Beautiful, The Apple Tree, Tenderloin, She Loves Me, and The Rothschilds. Bock’s additional honors include a Daytime Emmy Award, shared with Billy Aronson, for the song “A Fiddler Crab Am I,” used on the animated series The Wonder Pets. In addition, Bock was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972.

The celebration is open to the public, on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors will open at 2pm.
