The Royal Shakespeare Company has announced plans for its 2008-2009 season, including a new production of Hamlet, starring David Tennant in the title role and Patrick Stewart as Claudius.

That production, to be directed by Gregory Doran, will play at Stratford-upon-Avon's Courtyard Theatre, from July 24-November 15, with plans to transfer immediately to the West End. The Courtyard season will also include productions of the Bard's The Merchant of Venice, The Taming of the Shrew, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Love's Labour's Lost, starring Tennant as Berowne.

The RSC's London season will feature Adriano Shaplin's The Tragedy of Thomas Hobbes, Marina Carr's King Lear, The Cordelia Dream, Roy Williams' Days of Significance, Leo Butler's I'll Be the Devil, and an as-yet unnamed piece by Anthony Neilson.
