The New Group will continue its 20th Anniversary Season with the New York Premiere of Joel Drake Johnson's Rasheeda Speaking. As previously announced, the production will be helmed by stage and screen star Cynthia Nixon in her directorial debut. The limited off-Broadway engagement will run January 27-March 22 at The Pershing Square Signature Center, with official opening set for February 11.

The cast of Rasheeda Speaking will feature Tonya Pinkins (Jaclyn), Dianne Wiest (Ileen), Patricia Conolly (Rose), and Darren Goldstein (Dr. Williams).

In the Rasheeda Speaking, Ileen and Jaclyn have developed a bond in the six months they've worked together at the front desk of Dr. Williams' office, but when the doctor decides to get rid of Jaclyn, he enlists Ileen to help him find fault with her. The play is described as an "incisive and crisply funny look at the unspoken tensions buried inside our "post-racial" America."

This production features set design by Allen Moyer, costume design by Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by Jennifer Tipton, and sound design and original music by David Van Tieghem.
