Imelda Staunton, who recently ended a run at the West End's Savoy Theatre, may star in the production in New York, according to a quote from producer Michael Harrison in the Daily Mail. "We are actively pursuing and trying to work out the right way to go to New York with Imelda in Gypsy," he told the publication, which suggested the musical might hit Broadway in 2017.

Jonathan Kent's production of Jule Styne, Arthur Laurents, and Stephen Sondheim's Gypsy first played in Chichester in 2014 before transferring to the Savoy Theatre, where it played through November 28. It starred Staunton as the indomitable Momma Rose, along with Lara Pulver (Louise), Peter Davison (Herbie), Gemma Sutton (June), and Dan Burton (Tulsa).

The rest of the cast included Jack Chissick, Anita Louise Combe, Harry Dickman, Roger Dipper, Louise Gold, Lauren Hall, Clare Halse, Billy Hartman, Tom Hodgkins, Kieran Jae, Julie Legrand, Danielle Morris, Damien Poole, Lucinda Shaw, Luke Street, Natalie Woods, Philip Catchpole, Liz Ewing, Lauren Ingram, and Tom Murphy.

Staunton's London stage credits also include Sondheim's Into the Woods, Entertaining Mr. Sloane, and Guys and Dolls, among many others. Her acclaimed screen performances include Vera Drake, Shakespeare in Love, and the Harry Potter film series.
