Who knew that a musical about serial murder could be such a box office smash? The hit production of Silence! The Musical, currently playing at the Elektra Theatre, will end its run on December 30 after 447 performances and 8 previews.

With a book by Hunter Bell and music & lyrics by Jon and Al Kaplan, Silence! is the unauthorized musical parody of the 1991 Academy Award-winning thriller The Silence of the Lambs. It follows FBI trainee Clarice Starling (Pamela Bob) as she enlists the help of refined British doctor/cannibal Hannibal Lecter (Harry Bouvy) in tracking another serial killer cryptically nicknamed “Buffalo Bill” (David Ayers). Tony Award winner Christopher Gattelli offers direction and choreography.

After a much-fabled pre-production existence on the internet where the irreverent and questionably-tasteful songs garnered a cult following, Silence! made its stage premiere at the 2005 New York International Fringe Festival where it won the award for “Best Musical.”

The show’s off-Broadway run began at Theatre 80 on July 9, 2011, starring Brent Barrett and Jenn Harris. The production later transferred to the 9th Space at P.S. 122 before transferring again to its current home at the Elektra earlier this year.

The current cast of Silence! also features Ashlee Dupré, Natalie Joy Johnson, Howard Kaye, James Moye, Topher Nuccio, Ronica V. Reddick, Sam Rogers, Kimberly Stern, and Doug Trapp.

The creative team includes three-time Tony Award winner Scott Pask (sets), David Kaley (costumes), Jeff Croiter (lighting), and Carl Casella (sound). The music supervisor is Mark Hartman and the musical director is Brian J. Nash.
