Broadway Goes Green, a new Broadway initiative designed to create more environmentally friendly practices in the theater industry, was launched today. The program has been created in collaboration with the National Resources Defense Council and has the full support of the office of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg.

Among the steps shows have been taking, and will do so in the future, are the replacement of marquee lights with more efficient lighting, the use of recycled scenery, washing costumes in cold water, and the use of rechargeable batteries in sound equipment.
