Broadway star Kerry Butler is exiting the ABC soap opera One Life to Live, with her last appearance scheduled to air on January 3, according to TVGuide.com.

Butler joined the daytime drama earlier this year as Claudia Reston, the troubled ex-fianceé of Nash Brennan (played by Forbes March). The show’s headwriter, Dena Highley, told TVGuide.com that while she liked Butler very much, the character’s story had come to its conclusion. Having realized she will never reunite with Nash, Claudia — a recovering drug addict — will check herself back into rehab before she hits rock bottom.

Butler’s Broadway credits include Little Shop of Horrors, Hairspray, for which she received a Drama Desk Award nomination, Beauty and the Beast, and Blood Brothers. She has also starred regionally in the musical The Opposite of Sex.
Butler is scheduled to appear with her fellow daytime stars at ABC’s annual benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS on February 27 at the Town Hall.
