The winners of the 2006 Henry Hewes Design Awards, which cover Broadway, Of-Broadway, and Off-Off-Broadway productions, have been announced. They are: Allen Moyer (scenery, Grey Gardens); Anita Yavich (costumes, Measure for Pleasure); Howell Binkley (lighting, Jersey Boys); Ruppert Bohle (notable effects: projections, Cathay: Three Tales of China), Stephen Kaplin and Wang Bo (notable effects: puppetry, Cathay: Three Tales of China).

The awards are presented annually by the American Theatre Wing. This year’s honors will be bestowed at a luncheon ceremony to be held at Sardi’s on Thursday, November 9.

The 2006 awards committee, which consists of theater critics Jeffrey Eric Jenkins, Tish Dace, Michael Feingold, Glenda Frank, Mario Fratti, Randy Gener, and Joan Ungaro, considered more than 200 shows that played during the 2005-2006 season. Henry Hewes, the noted critic for whom the awards were renamed in 1999, died on July 18 at the age of 89.
