Mrs. Warren's Profession tells of Vivie Warren, a Cambridge educated and well brought-up young woman who learns that her mother, Mrs. Kitty Warren, has risen from abject poverty to enormous wealth through her investments in brothels throughout Europe. The play was first seen on Broadway in 1905 and last revived there in 1976 with Ruth Gordon, Lynn Redgrave, Philip Bosco, and Milo O'Shea in the cast. The Roundabout Theatre Company produced a celebrated Off-Broadway revival in 1985, starring Uta Hagen and Pamela Reed.
