Sean Avery, Travis Wall, and Off-Broadway’s Bare Honor National Coming Out Day

The upcoming Off-Broadway production of Bare honored National Coming Out Day on Thursday, October 11 with the announcement of their new collaboration with Athlete Ally, the Human Rights Campaign, Faith in America, and The Tyler Clementi Foundation.

Producer Paul Boskind hosted the event, which took place at the Snapple Theater Center. Joining Boskind were Sean Avery of the New York Rangers hockey team (representing Athlete Ally), human rights activist Fiona Dawson, Faith in America Executive Director Brent Childers, LGBT and Women’s Rights Advocate Roberta Sklar, and Steven Guy and James Clementi of the Tyler Clementi Foundation.

Also on hand were Bare director Stafford Arima, choreographer Travis Wall, writer Jon Hartmere, and cast members including Jason Hite, who performed a number from the production.

Set in a co-ed Catholic high school school, the musical follows two students (Hite and Taylor Trensch) who embark on a closeted love affair. The cast also features Elizabeth Judd (Ivy), Gerard Canonico (Matt), Jerold E. Solomon (Father Mike), Barrett Wilbert Weed (Nadia), Missi Pyle (Sister Joan), Casey Garvin (Zack), Ariana Groover (Vanessa), Sara Kapner (Madison), Anthony Festa (Swing), Alice Lee (Diane), Megan Lewis (Swing), Justin Gregory Lopez (Beto), Michael Tacconi (Nick), and Alex Wyse (Alan).

Bare features music by Damon Intrabartolo and book & lyrics by Hartmere. Additional songs are by Hartmere and Lynne Shankel, the latter of whom serves as musical supervisor and arranger.

The musical begins previews on November 19, 2012 and will open on December 9 at New World Stages.
