The upcoming Broadway production of Motown: the Musical will embark upon a nationwide open call audition tour to cast African American singers for the show.

The musical is based on the life of legendary Motown founder Berry Gordy, Jr. and will begin performances on March 11, 2013 in advance of an April 14 opening at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.

Charles Randolph Wright directs the work, which features a book by Gordy, and a score culled from Motown's legendary catalogue. The production stars Brandon Victor Dixon and Valisia LeKae as Gordy and Diana Ross, respectively.

Major cities on the audition tour include Detroit (November 3), New York City (November 3), Los Angeles (November 10), Chicago (November 18), and Atlanta (December 1).
