The Broadway League has announced the cancellation of all Broadway performances on Sunday evening, October 28, and Monday evening, October 29, in light of the government's shutdown of public transportation due to the impending Hurricane Sandy.
Cancelled Sunday evening performances on and Off-Broadway include Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark; Rock of Ages; The Book of Mormon; Chicago; The Phantom of the Opera; Mary Poppins; Mamma Mia!; The Lion King; The Performers; Roundabout Theatre Company's Bad Jews; Lincoln Center Theater's Disgraced; the Public Theater's Wild With Happy, Giant, and Fun Home; Forbidden Broadway; Detroit and The Whale at Playwrights Horizons; Emotional Creature; Fuerza Bruta; Signature Theatre's The Piano Lesson and Golden Child; Stomp; York Theatre's Closer Than Ever; the Big Apple Circus (5:30pm show); Transport Group's House for Sale; Silence! the Musical; In the Bar of a Tokyo Hotel; the Broadway Scares benefit; Rachel Potter's Birdland concert; and 54 Below concerts by Mark Nadler and Nicole Parker, among others.
Cancelled Monday evening performances include Annie; Evita; Newsies; Bring it On: The Musical; Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark; Chicago; Mamma Mia!; Rock of Ages; The Phantom of the Opera; Disgraced; Don't Go Gentle; and the 54 Below concerts of David Friedman and Brent Barrett, among others.

The MTA has been directed by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to begin an orderly shutdown and suspension of all subway, bus, and commuter railroad service at 7 pm Sunday. Service on NYC Transit subways will be curtailed beginning at 7 pm, and the bus network within the following two hours. Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad will start their final trains by 7 pm from terminal locations. Subway and rail road stations will be closed after the last trains pass through stations. No timetable for the resumption of public transportation has been announced.
