Producers announced today that Soul Doctor, the new Broadway musical about the life and music of Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach and his unlikely friendship with jazz singer Nina Simone, has formed a partnership with The Alumni Community of Birthright Israel. As the organization’s primary provider of post-programming for Birthright veterans, The Alumni Community will offer 5,000 alums the chance to see Soul Doctor on Broadway and participate in exclusive receptions and post-performance talk-backs. Michael Steinhardt, cofounder of Birthright Israel and chair of The Alumni Community, is underwriting the partnership.

“The Alumni Community, New York’s Primary Provider of Birthright Israel Post Programming, is thrilled that our Chair, Michael Steinhardt, would share his passion for Jewish music with the tens of thousands of Birthright Israel alumni we work with in this way,” said Rebecca Sugar, executive director of The Alumni Community. “The gift of tickets to Soul Doctor is the gift of connection to our community and its cultural history.”

Soul Doctor producer Jeremy Chess commented on the partnership: “The passion for music and freedom that Shlomo Carlebach exhibited in life and in Soul Doctor is matched by the overwhelming generosity of Michael Steinhardt and The Alumni Community, his Birthright Israel alumni effort. We are thrilled that because of his support, thousands of students and young adults will be able to experience one of the most uplifting and joyous shows ever on Broadway.”
