David Cromer to Direct Richard Nelson’s Nikolai and the Others for Lincoln Center Theater

Lincoln Center Theater will present the world premiere of Richard Nelson‘s Nikolai and the Others, to be directed by David Cromer in the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater beginning April 4, 2013 with an opening on Monday, May 6.

This Lincoln Center-commissioned work is set in 1948, and concerns a famous group of Russian émigrés — including choreographer George Balanchine, composer Igor Stravinsky, conductor Serge Koussevitsky, painter/set designer Sergey Sudeikin, and composer Nikolai Nabokov.

Cast and design team for the production will be announced at a later date.

Cromer previously directed the LCT production of When the Rain Stops Falling, for which he won a Lucille Lortel Award. Broadway credits include The House of Blue Leaves and Brighton Beach Memoirs. He is currently represented Off-Broadway with his production of Tribes.

Nelson received a Tony nomination for the LCT-produced Two Shakespearean Actors, and won a Tony for his book to the musical adaptation of James Joyce’s The Dead. His many other works including Some Americans Abroad, Franny’s Way, Madame Melville, Goodnight Children Everywhere, and the book for the musical Chess.
