Tom Lenk, best known for playing Andrew on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, will join the Broadway cast of Rock of Ages for a six month engagement beginning September 14. He replaces Wesley Taylor, who is leaving to join the cast of the upcoming Broadway production of The Addams Family.

Written by Chris D’Arienzo and directed by Kristin Hanggi, the musical focuses on a young rocker hungry for his big break and a small town girl who meet in 1987 at a legendary Hollywood club facing its imminent demise. The score includes the hit songs of iconic rockers Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, Pat Benatar, Whitesnake, and many more.

Lenk originated the role of Franz in the Los Angeles and Las Vegas productions of Rock of Ages. His other theater credits include The Book of Liz, Ann E. Wrecksick, There’s Something Living in the House that Jack Built, and The Pajama Game. His film and TV credits also include Six Feet Under, House, Transformers, and Date Movie.

In related news, many of the principals have extended their contracts through summer 2010, including the previously announced Tony nominee Constantine Maroulis (Drew), as well as James Carpinello (Stacee Jaxx), Adam Dannheisser (Dennis), Mitchell Jarvis (Lonny), Michele Mais (Justice), and Lauren Molina (Regina). Paul Schoeffler, currently on leave, returns October 26 and will also be with the show through summer 2010. Don Stephenson is playing the role of Hertz until his return. As previously announced, Kerry Butler will join the cast for six months as Sherrie beginning September 21.
