Danny Hoch’s Taking Over to Open at Public Theater in November

Danny Hoch’s new solo performance piece, Taking Over, will play The Public Theater, November 7-December 14, with an opening set for November 23. Tony Taccone will direct.

In the solo show, Hoch gives voice to a spectrum of New Yorkers, from the developers evicting locals to make way for lofts, to the bar-hopping career hipsters who buy them, and those left in the wake of both.

As previously announced, Hoch will present free performances of the show in all five boroughs, October 1-11, as part of the New York Hip-Hop Theater Festival. (See www.hhtf.org for more information.)

Hoch is the author of Till the Break of Dawn and is well known for his solo performances Some People and Jails, Hospitals & Hip-Hop. He founded the Hip-Hop Theater Festival in 2000, and he appears annually in New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., San Francisco, and Oakland. He is the recipient of two Obie Awards, an NEA Solo Theatre Fellowship, Sundance Writers Fellowship, CalArts/Alpert Award in Theatre, and a Tennessee Williams Fellowship.
