Dave Malloy, Phillipa Soo, Lucas Steele to Star in Ars Nova’s Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812

Ars Nova is set to present the world premiere of the theater’s 2011 Composer-in-Residence Dave Malloy’s Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, October 1-November 10. Rachel Chavkin will direct.

In the play, Natasha Rostova arrives in Moscow to await the return of her fiancé from the front lines. When she falls under the spell of the city’s most charming rogue, it is up to the disillusioned Pierre to pick up the pieces of her reputation.

The cast will feature Phillipa Soo (Natasha), Lucas Steele (Anatole), Dave Malloy (Pierre), Brittain Ashford (Sonya), Amber Gray (Helene), Amelia Workman (Marya D.), Gelsey Bell (Princess Mary), Nick Choksi (Dolokhov), Blake DeLong (Bolkonsky/Andrey), and Paul Pinto (Balaga).

Live music will be provided by Raymond Sicam (cello), Brent Arnold (cello) Sally Wall (oboe), Mark Dover (clarinet/bass clarinet), Pinky Weitzman (viola), and John Murchison (bass). Musical Director is Dave Malloy.

The design team will include Mimi Lien (set design), Paloma Young (costume design), Bradley King (lighting design), and Matthew Hubbs (sound design).
