Playwrights Realm Announces Casting for Jen Silverman’s Crane Story

Playwrights Realm has announced casting for Jen Silverman’s Crane Story, which will begin performances on September 6 at the Cherry Lane Theatre. Katherine Kovner will direct the production , which will open on September 15.

The play, which borrows from both Eastern and Western mythology, focuses on a Japanese-American girl, who is attempting to explore her identity and finds she can only do so by coming to terms with her brother’s suicide.

The company will feature Angela Lin, Christine Toy Johnson, Louis Ozawa Changchien, David Shih, Susan Hyon, Jake Manabat and Barret O’Brien.

The creative team will include Michael Locher (scenic design), Ji-Youn Chang, (lighting design), Moria Clinton (costume design), and Nathan Roberts (original music and sound design). The production’s Bunraku-inspired puppets will be created by Puppet Kitchen.
