Drama Desk Award nominee Steve Rosen will join the off-Broadway company of Peter and the Starcatcher beginning Monday, July 8 in the role of Smee. Rosen, who took on the role of Black Stache in certain performances during the show's initial run at New York Theatre Workshop in 2010, will replace Kevin Del Aguila, who departs the show on July 7 to star in Love's Labour's Lost at Shakespeare in the Park.
Rosen received 2013 Drama Desk Award nominations for Outstanding Actor in a Musical, Outstanding Book of a Musical, and Outstanding Lyrics for The Other Josh Cohen. He has appeared on Broadway in Monty Python's Spamalot, The Farnsworth Invention, and Guys and Dolls.
Written by Rick Elice and co-directed by Roger Rees and Alex Timbers, Peter and the Starcatcher is a prequel to J.M. Barrie's classic Peter Pan story inspired by the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. After moving to Broadway following its run at New York Theatre Workshop, the show now plays at New World Stages. Leading the company are Rick Holmes, Nicole Lowrance, and Jason Ralph.
After appearing in Love's Labour's Lost, Del Aguila will return to Peter and the Starcatcher on August 26.
