Five-time Tony Award nominee Tom Aldredge died on Friday, July 22 after a battle with lymphoma, according to published reports. He was 83.

Aldredge made his Broadway debut in 1959 in The Nervous Set, and went on to appear in almost 30 productions, including On Golden Pond, for which he originated the role of Norman Thayer, and Into the Woods, in which he played the role of Old Man/Narrator. His last Broadway appearance was the Roundabout Theatre's 2005 production of Twelve Angry Men.

He received his Tony nominations for Sticks and Bones, the 1975 revival of Where's Charley, the 1981 revival of The Little Foxes, Passion, and the 2004 revival of Twentieth Century.

He worked frequently in film and television, including major roles on The Sopranos, Damages, and Boardwalk Empire. He won a Daytime Emmy Award in 1978 for the show Henry Winkler Meets William Shakespeare, which was part of The CBS Festival of Lively Arts for Young People.

Aldredge's wife, Tony Award-winning costume designer Theoni V. Aldredge, predeceased him.
