NY Philharmonic Brass, Roberta Flack, Roy Hargrove et. al Set for Make Music New York

The New York Philharmonic Brass, Roberta Flack, Roy Hargrove, and Francois Parisi are among the artists who will take part in the Make Music New York celebration, with free live music all over the city, June 21.

For this festival, thousands of musicians, in every genre, will play on the sidewalks on the first day of summer and the longest day of the year. In anticipation of the Guggenheim’s retrospective of Paris native and artist Louise Bourgeois, Francois Parisi will perform a selection of the artist’s favorite songs, on the sidewalk in front of the museum, 1071 Fifth Avenue. The NY Philharmonic Principal Brass, NYC Opera, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and more will join forces for the Lincoln Square Block Party on West 64th Street; Roberta Flack will introduce three talented middle-school ensembles at the Central Park Bandshell at 5th Avenue and East 74th Street; and Roy Hargrove and Cristol will fill the Jazz Gallery Block Party, at Dominick Street and Hudson Street, with Cuban sound.

75 punk bands will fill 13 stages throughout Governors Island; Bit Shifter and Anamanaguchi will make music using Gameboys, at the Tank’s Block Party in Tribeca; and Bronx-based percussionists Heritage O.P. will play outside Carnegie Hall. With nearly 800 events this year, Make Music New York is based on Paris’ Fete de la Musique, which has been running for 25 years. The festival has become an international phenomenon, celebrated on the same day in more than 300 cities in 108 countries.
