Emma Thompson and Mark Rylance Set for Film Adaptation of Alone in Berlin

Oscar-winner Emma Thompson (Saving Mr. Banks) and Tony winner Mark Rylance (Twelfth Night) will star in Vincent Perez's upcoming World War II-era film Alone in Berlin. Inspired by Hans Fallada's novel, the film features a screenplay written by Perez and Achim von Borries.
Based on a true story, Alone in Berlin follows Otto and Anna Quangel, a Berlin couple who are forced into an act of resistance after their child is killed on the warfront. Daniel Brühl is also featured in the principal company.
Rylance received a pair of 2014 Tony Award nominations for his performances on Broadway in Twelfth Night and Richard III. He is the recipient of two Tonys for his work in Boeing-Boeing and Jerusalem. Thompson recently made her New York stage debut in the New York Philharmonic's concert production of Sweeney Todd. Brühl is best known for his performance as Frederick Zoller in Quentin Tarantino's film Inglourious Basterds.
The film is scheduled to start preproduction in Germany later this year.
