Christian Borle and Shuler Hensley Will Lead 2014 Encores! Season

Borle will star in Little Me while Hensley will lead the cast of The Most Happy Fella

Tony Award winner Christian Borle (NBC’s Smash, Peter and the Starcatcher) will open New York City Center‘s 2014 Encores! season, starring in Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh’s Little Me, directed by Tony Award winner John Rando (Urinetown). Little Me, Neil Simon’s first musical, tells the story of a self-invented celebrity by the name of Belle Poitrine whose seven lovers are all portrayed by a single actor (Borle). The musical is scheduled to run from February 5-9, 2014.

Tony Award winner Shuler Hensley (The Whale, Oklahoma!) will then take on the starring role in Frank Loesser’s romantic musical The Most Happy Fella, directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon). Set to run from April 2-6, 2014, the show depicts the love triangle that develops between an aging Napa Valley farmer, a young waitress, and a handsome ranch hand. It features several classic showtunes including “Big D” and “Standing on the Corner.”

A production of Irma La Douce is up next, with direction by Tony Award winner John Doyle (Passion). The first Encores! musical not written on American soil, Irma la Douce follows a Parisian “lady of the evening” and the law student who falls in love with her. It features music by Marguerite Monnot and an English book and lyrics by Julian More, David Heneker, and Monty Norman. The production will run from May 7-11, 2014.

Rob Berman will serve as music director for all three productions.
