Baba Brinkman to Perform The Rap Guide to Evolution Off-Broadway in June

Baba Brinkman will return to New York with his show The Rap Guide to Evolution, performing at the Soho Playhouse, beginning on June 17 in anticipation of an official opening on June 26. Dodd Loomis has directed the production.

In the piece, Brinkman not only explores the facts of evolution, including natural selections, sexual selection and evolutionary psychology, he also illuminates the origins and complexities of hip-hop culture with Darwin as his inspiration.

When the production was offered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2009, it won a Scotsman Fringe First Award for Best New Theatre Writing. Brinkman subsequently performed the piece in New York at 45 Bleecker in 2010. Other appearances include one at the Cambridge Darwin Festival. In addition, Brinkman has toured his show, The Rap Canterbury Tales internationally, and released two albums, including The Rebel Cell, a hip-hop play that won the “Spirit of the Fringe Award” when it played in Edinburgh.
