It has been announced that the Broadway production of Thoroughly Modern Millie, which won six 2002 Tony Awards including Best Musical, will give its final performance at the Marquis Theatre on Sunday, June 20. At the time of its closing, the show will have played 32 previews and 904 regular performances.

Based on the 1967 film of the same title, the stage musical has a book by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan, lyrics by Scanlan, and music by Jeanine Tesori. It was directed by Michael Mayer and choreographed by Rob Ashford. Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of a young woman who leaves Kansas to try to carve out a life for herself in New York during the Roaring Twenties. The show currently stars Susan Egan, Leslie Uggams, Dixie Carter, Christian Borle, Kevin Earley, Angela Christian, David Rhee, Peter Kim, and Liz McCartney.

In their review of the show for TheaterMania, Barbara and Scott Siegel wrote, “A wonderfully gaudy stage cartoon, the show is actually a pastiche of big, old-fashioned musicals” and “the show is quite likeable but let’s get this straight: it’s pretty much a case of all style, no substance.”
