Flower Power! Big Names at BMA Benefit June 10

Symphony Space will be the site of “Broadway in Bloom,” the June 10 benefit bash for the Broadway Mall Association (BMA), a community organization that keeps the stretches of park space along upper Broadway planted with flowers and nicely groomed. (Symphony Space is newly groomed itself, having just undergone a $12 million renovation).

The benefit celebrates the conclusion of the organization’s first-ever “Broadway in Bloom” Garden Design Competition, which selected six horticultural superstars whose work will be planted in garden beds where Broadway intersects 82nd, 83rd, and 84th Streets.

BMA has assembled a tremendous roster of performers for the June event, including actors Tony Randall, Celeste Holm, Kevin Conway, Donna McKechnie, and Fyvush Finkel; the American operatic tenor Michael Amante; legendary jazz drummer Chico Hamilton; Pia Lindstrom from Fox 5; and such cabaret/theater stars as Julie Halston, Claiborne Cary, and noted Streisand impersonator Steven Brinberg.

Tickets start at $25 and top out at $150. (Those who pony up at the highest level get to attend a pre-show VIP reception with the stars.) Phone the Symphony Space box office at 212-864-5400 for information.
