Rocky, a new musical inspired by the classic film of the same name, written by Tony Award winners Stephen Flaherty, Lynn Ahrens, and Thomas Meehan, will play Broadway's Winter Garden Theatre beginning in February 2014, with an official opening set for March 2014. Alex Timbers directs the production, which features choreography by Kelly Devine and fight choreography by Steven Hoggett.

Conceived by Sylvester Stallone, who wrote and starred in the Academy Award-winning film, Rocky, which follows the against-the-odds rise of a Philadelphia boxer, had its world premiere in Hamburg, Germany this past fall. Stallone produces the Broadway run, along with Stage Entertainment USA.

Casting has not yet been announced. Featuring a book by Meehan (The Producers, Annie) and an original score by Flaherty and Ahrens — the team behind the musicals Ragtime and Once On This Island — the musical also uses the classic Rocky theme, "Gonna Fly Now," "Eye of the Tiger," and features a climactic boxing match in a regulation-size boxing ring. The Hamburg production starred Drew Sarich (Lestat) in the title role, with actress Wietske van Tongeren as his love interest, Adrian.

The Winter Garden Theatre is currently the home of the long-running ABBA musical, Mamma Mia!, which recently announced it will be transferring to the Broadhurst Theatre later this year.
