Frank Basile, Jennifer Rossetti Set for Encompass New Opera Theatre’s Singing Stein

Encompass New Opera Theatre will present Singing Stein on April 27 at Symphony Space at 7pm and 9:30pm.

Gertrude Stein’s words inspired many a composer, most notably Virgil Thomson with his rarely performed Capital Capitals, a musical conversation among the Provencal cities of Aix, Arles, Avignon, and Les Baux is paired with Ned Rorem’s Three Sisters Who Are Not Sisters, a setting of Stein’s surreal non-linear murder mystery. Gertrude wrote Capital Capitals in 1923, poking fun at four gentlemen promoting their business ventures in the South of France. Composer Virgil Thomson, who met Gertrude in Paris, composed the witty score in 1927.

Capital Capitals features Frank Basile, Ryan Scott Lathan, Joseph Peterson, and Christopher Vettel. Three Sisters Who are Not Sisters features Alfred Barclift,
Erika Beth Henning, Eapen Laubner, Jeanai LaVita, and Jennifer Rossetti.

This program of one-acts by Encompass New Opera Theatre is directed by Nancy Rhodes, with music direction by Mara Waldman.
