Stephen Daldry to Direct Movie Version of Jonathan Safran Foer’s Novel Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

Two-time Tony Award winner Stephen Daldry will direct a movie based on Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The screenplay will be by Eric Roth.

The 2005 book centers on Oskar Schell, a nine-year-old who’s combing New York for the lock that matches a mysterious key that belonged his father, who was killed in the September 11 attacks.

Daldry has won Tony Awards for his direction of Billy Elliot and An Inspector Calls. He also directed David Hare’s Via Dolorosa on Broadway. Among his film credits are the movie Billy Elliot, The Hours and The Reader.
