Character Actor James Rebhorn Dies at 65
Broadway veteran and noted character actor of film and television James Rebhorn died on March 21 at his home in South Orange, New Jersey, after a long battle with melanoma, with which he was diagnosed in 1992. He was 65.
Rebhorn made his Broadway debut in 1979 in a production of Eric Bentley's Are You Now or Have You Ever Been. He went on to appear in six more Broadway productions throughout his career, including I'm Not Rappaport, Our Town, The Man Who Had All the Luck, Dinner at Eight, Twelve Angry Men, and most recently, the 2007 revival of Prelude to a Kiss.
Rebhorn had a long-standing relationship with Roundabout Theatre Company, appearing in a number of its productions, including his recent off-Broadway performance in the Roundabout Underground production of Meghan Kennedy's Too Much, Too Much, Too Many in the fall of 2013.
Rebhorn's film career included character and featured roles in Lorenzo's Oil, Blank Check, 8 Seconds, White Squall, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Scent of a Woman, Independence Day, My Cousin Vinny, Carlito's Way, The Game, Meet the Parents, Regarding Henry, Baby Mama, The Box, Real Steel, Sleepwalk with Me, and The Perfect Wedding, among others.
He is also well known for his numerous television roles including the character of Bradley Raines on the popular soap opera Guiding Light (1983-85), Henry Lange on the sister soap opera As the World Turns (1988-91), and a recurring role on NBC's Law & Order. His most recent television appearances include recurring roles on the USA series White Collar as Special Agent Reese Hughes and on the popular Showtime series Homeland as father of protagonist Carrie Mathison (played by Claire Danes).
Rebhorn is survived by his wife, Rebecca Linn Rebhorn, and their two daughters, Emma and Hannah Rebhorn.
