Once Original Cast Recording Set for March 13 Release

Masterworks Broadway will release the original cast recording of the new musical Once on March 13. As previously reported, the show will begin previews at Broadway’s Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 with opening night set for Sunday, March 18, 2012.

The 16-track disc will feature not only the Oscar-winning hit “Falling Slowly,” and other numbers from the film, but also two new songs, “Abandoned in Bandon” and the Czech folk song “Ej Pada Pada Rosicka.” All of the music on the album was recorded by the production’s company of actors/musicians in the same style and environment as the stage show.

With music and lyrics by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, and a book by Enda Walsh, Once is adapted from the 2007 Academy Award-winning film of the same name. The musical, which is set on the streets of Dublin, focuses on an Irish musician, known just as “Guy,” and a Czech immigrant, known just as “Girl.”

The company features Steve Kazee (Guy) and Cristin Milioti (Girl), along with David Abeles, Will Connolly, Elizabeth A. Davis, David Patrick Kelly, Anne L. Nathan, Lucas Papaelias, Andy Taylor, Erikka Walsh, Paul Whitty, and J. Michael Zygo.

John Tiffany has directed the production, which has movement by Steven Hoggett and orchestrations and music supervision by Martin Lowe. The production featuers set and costume design by Bob Crowley, lighting design by Natasha Katz, and sound design by Clive Goodwin
