John Heilpern to Discuss John Osborne Biography at Drama Book Shop

Author John Heilpern will discuss his new book, John Osborne: The Many Lives of the Angry Young Man, with TheaterMania contributor David Finkle at 6pm on Wednesday, February 14 at the Drama Book Shop (250 West 40th Street). The event will also include a book signing.

Osborne first gained acclaim in 1956 for the play Look Back in Anger. He went on to write many other succesful works, including The Entertainer, Epitaph for George Dillon, Inadmissible Evidence, and Luther, which won the 1964 Tony Award for Best Play. Heilpern’s biography is the first one informed by the playwright’s secret notebooks, in which he recorded his otherwise hidden anguish and immobilizing depression.

Heilpern, who was born in England, is also the author of Conference of the Birds, which details a journey by director Peter Brook and a group of actors across the African desert. He is currently the drama critic for The New York Observer.

The reading is free, but seating is limited. To make a reservation, call 212-944-0595 x417 or email info@dramabookshop.com.
