Second Stage Theatre celebrates the New York production of Quiara Alegría Hudes’ 2012 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama.

Second Stage Theatre celebrated the off-Broadway opening night of Quiara Alegría Hudes’ 2012 Pulitzer Prize-winning play Water by the Spoonful on Tuesday, January 8 with a post-performance shindig at Dave & Buster’s. Davis McCallum directs the production, which runs through January 27.

The second play in a trilogy that began with Elliot, A Soldier’s Fugue, Water by the Spoonful follows Elliot, a Marine who returns home to Philadelphia after a tour of duty in Iraq with a permanently battle-scarred leg and a life in flux. His world begins to change even faster with the discovery of a cyberspace chat room for recovering drug addicts. The company is led by Armando Riesco and Zabryna Guevara, both of whom appeared in the first play of the trilogy, as well as Liza Colon-Zayas (Our Lady of 121st Street), Frankie R. Faison (Oz), Bill Heck (The Orphans’ Home Cycle), and Sue Jean Kim (Assistance).

Guests at the opening night performance included Second Stage alum Halley Feiffer (subUrbia), Maggie Lacey (The Orphans’ Home Cycle), Shirley Rumierk (Ilegales), and David Zayas (Dexter).
