Karen Olivo, Josefina Scaglione to Continue in Broadway’s West Side Story Through Summer 2010

West Side Story stars Karen Olivo and Josefina Scaglione have renewed their contracts, and will perform in the Broadway revival of the musical at the Palace Theater through at least the summer of 2010.

The show, which features music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, transports Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet to the turbulent streets of the Upper West Side in 1950’s New York City as two star-crossed lovers, Tony and Maria, find themselves caught between the rival street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds, the “Jets” and the “Sharks.”

The production is directed by its two-time Tony Award winning librettist Arthur Laurents with the original Jerome Robbins choreography restaged by Tony Award nominee Joey McKneely. Olivo received a Tony Award for her performance as Anita, while Scaglione was Tony-nominated for her role of Maria.

The cast also stars Matthew Hydzik as Tony (with Jeremy Jordan playing the role at certain performances), John Arthur Greene as Riff, and George Akram as Bernardo. The cast also features Steve Bassett, Kyle Brenn, Joshua Buscher, Mike Cannon, Kyle Coffman, Sara Dobbs, Wes Hart, Michael Kleeman, Michael Mastro, Michael Rosen, Lee Sellars, Ryan Steele, Greg Vinkler, Mikey Winslow, Mark Zimmerman, Isaac Calpito, Gabriel Canett, Haley Carlucci, Natalie Cortez, Kristine Covillo, Stephen Diaz, Lindsay Dunn, Marina Lazzaretto, Yanira Marin, Mileyka Mateo, Kaitlin Mesh, Shina Ann Morris, Angelina Mullins, Kat Nejat, Pamela Otterson, Jesus Pacheco, Colt Prattes, Alex Ringler, Sam Rogers, Amy Ryerson, Jennifer Sanchez, Manuel Santos, Phillip Spaeth, Brendon Stimson, Tanairi Sade Vazquez, and Michael Williams.
