Nominated for 4 Tony Awards including Best revival of a Musical!
The landmark musical West Side Story returns to Broadway, directed by two-time Tony Award winning librettist Arthur Laurents. Matt Cavenaugh stars as Tony, with Josefina Scaglione as Maria, Karen Olivo as Anita, and Cody Green as Riff.
The show transports Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet to the turbulent streets of the Upper West Side in 1950's New York City. Two star-crossed lovers, Tony and Maria, find themselves caught between the rival street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds, the "Jets" and the "Sharks."
The show features a book by Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The original Jerome Robbins choreography will be restaged by Tony Award nominee Joey McKneely.
This production, with an onstage cast of 37 and 30 musicians in the orchestra pit, will introduce the unprecedented element of selectively weaving Spanish throughout both the book and songs.

Read what our TM Insiders had to say about West Side Story!
I went to the show with high expectations - the material and the music is so great, but we were very disappointed with a weak voices and no chemistry between the actors. After the first snapping of fingers, the spark never came. Everyone tried very hard, but there was way too much coreography and way too little edge. So sorry.
I just saw it this past Wed and I liked it. The Spanish wasnt that over powering...they only sing 2 songs in Spanish and some of the dialogue before America and when Chino tells Maria about her brother are in Spanish. If you like West Side Story you should def go see this. It is not to be missed
Outstanding. The dancing was perfect! Singing was spectacular! The only negative was Tonys voice which was not as strong as it should have been. He was off key or had a slight southern accent. I would have liked an overture as the orchestra was wonderful.
The order of the musical numbers follows the original play - not the movie. If you have a problem with Spanish -read the translation libretto in the playbill.
A must see!
Many of you who have reviewed it so far have never seen the stage show...it is different from the movie. In the stage show Krupky is after Riff diesalso the original lyrics were toned down for the movie and Cool is after the war council in the show, the changed it for the movie. This is not the movie. Also the shark girls sing America not the sharks. Also when it originally was on broadway it did not succeed.
I actually like the idea of spanish being spoken for spanish speaking characters. It worked in Light in the Piazza to have Italians speaking Italian so why not
The new Broadway season begins with Burn the Floor, featuring Dancing With the Stars' Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff.
