David Hyde Pierce will star in the backstage murder mystery-musical comedy Curtains at L.A.'s Ahmanson Theater this summer. The production will be directed by Scott Ellis, who is currently represented by the Off-Broadway play The Little Dog Laughed. No specific dates or casting have been announced.

The show has been in development for many years. It has a book by Tony winner Rupert Holmes (based on a book by the late Peter Stone) and a score by John Kander and his late songwriting partner, Fred Ebb. Kander and Holmes will be writing some additional lyrics for this production. Set in Boston in the 1950s, Curtains centers on detective Frank Cioffi (to be played by Pierce), who is called to investigate the murder of a musical's leading lady.

Pierce is currently starring in Monty Python's Spamalot. He previously appeared on Broadway in Beyond Therapy and The Heidi Chronicles, and is well known for his Emmy Award-winning role of Niles Crane on Frasier.
