Two-time Tony Award nominee André De Shields will direct the New Jersey-based Crossroads Theatre Company’s production of the Fats Waller revue Ain’t Misbehavin’, October 6-24.

The musical features a book by Murray Horwitz and Richard Maltby, Jr., music by Thomas Wright “Fats” Waller, and lyrics by various writers. It recalls the glory of the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s and ’30s, and features hit favorites of the era including “I Can’t Give You Anything but Love, Baby,” “It’s a Sin to Tell a Lie,” “Squeeze Me” and “Ain’t Misbehavin’.”

De Shields starred in the original Broadway production of the musical. He received Tony Award nominations for Play On! and The Full Monty.

Also on the theater’s 2011-2012 all-musical season are Holiday Jubilee 2011 (December 8-18), directed by Rick Sordelet; In Bed with the Blues: The Adventures of Fishy Waters, written and performed by Guy Davis (February 16-26); and Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years (April 12-22).

In addition, Crossroads will host the Genesis Festival of New Plays and Voices (May 25-27), which will feature professional staged readings.
