Aaron Posner’s adaptation of Chaim Potok’s 1972 novel My Name Is Asher Lev has been added to the Long Wharf Theatre’s 2011-2012 season, to run May 2-27. It replaces David Rintel’s previously reported stage adaptation of Sophie’s Choice, that was to have starred Carla Gugino.

Asher Lev centers on a young man with a true artistic calling, who is torn between his deeply observant Hasidic Jewish community and the passionate need to paint. When he runs afoul of his family and tradition by attempting to embrace his gift, he is forced to make the difficult choice between faith and art.

Casting along with creative team, for the new production will be announced in the near future.
