Penumbra Theatre Company to Present Staged Reading of Kara Lee Corthron’s Holly Down in Heaven

Penumbra Theatre Company is set to present a staged reading of Kara Lee Corthron’s Holly Down in Heaven as the final reading of Word(s)PLAY! 2012, a forum designed to develop new plays by African American playwrights. The reading will take place July 28 7:30pm. Ching Valdes-Aran will direct.

In Holly Down in Heaven, Holly, a fifteen year-old, whip-smart, born-again-Christian, discovers that she’s pregnant and relegates herself to the basement to wait for the arrival of her baby.

The cast will feature Ansa Akyea, Sun Mee Chomet, Shavunda Horsley, and Daniel Laird.

Following the reading, there will be an open talk back with the playwright, director, artists, and audience.
