Claire Danes, Kelsey Grammer, Laura Linney, Meryl Streep, et al. Receive Golden Globe Award Nominations

Nominations have been announced for the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards, which will be handed out on Sunday, January 15 in Los Angeles and aired live on NBC. The ceremony will be hosted by Ricky Gervais.

Nominated films include Midnight in Paris, for which Woody Allen also received a Best Director nomination; The Ides of March, for which George Clooney received a Best Director nomination, and War Horse.

Stage veterans nominated for their film work include Kenneth Branagh (My Week With Marilyn), Jessica Chastain (The Help), Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs), Viola Davis (The Help), Janet McTeer (Albert Nobbs), Christopher Plummer (The Beginners), Octavia Spencer (The Help), Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady), and Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn). In addition, Jodie Foster and Kate Winslet received nominations for their work in Carnage, the screen adaptation of God of Carnage.

Stage performers nominated for their work in primetime television include Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), Claire Danes (Homeland), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) David Duchovny (Californication), Mireile Enos (The Killing), Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory), Romola Garai (The Hour), Paul Giamatti (Too Big to Fail), Kelsey Grammer (Boss), William Hurt (Too Big to Fail), Diane Lane (Cinema Verite), Jessica Lange (American Horror Story), Laura Linney (The Big C), Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife), Bill Nighy (Page Eight), Tim Robbins (Cinema Verite), Maggie Smith (Dowtown Abbey), Sofia Vergara (Modern Family), and Dominic West (The Hour).

In other categories, Woody Allen was nominated for the screenplay for Midnight in Paris, and Aaron Sorkin was nominated for the screenplay for Moneyball.

Glenn Close and songwriter Brian Byrne received a Best Song nomination for “Lay Down Your Head” from Albert Nobbs; Elton John received a Best Song nomination for “Hello Hello” from Gnomeo & Juliet; and Madonna received a Best Song nomination for “Masterpiece” from W.E., which she directed

Stage and screen star Morgan Freeman will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
