Antonio Banderas, Melanie Griffith at Work on American Housewife Pilot

Film stars, Broadway veterans, and married couple Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith will executive produce the new Lifetime pilot, American Housewife, according to Deadline.com. Griffith is also in negotiations to star in the project.

The script is written by Erik Jendresen, based on an idea by Jendresen and Banderas. Deadline describes it as revolving around “a mother of two children who has conversations with her inner voice while dealing with one of her kids leaving home for college and the other remaining at home.”

Banderas is scheduled to return to Broadway in Zorba!. He starred on Broadway in Nine, receiving a Tony Award nomination and a Drama Desk Award. Among his many film credits are Evita, Shrek 2, The Mask of Zorro, And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself, and The House of the Spirits.

Griffith played the role of Roxie Hart in Chicago on Broadway, with her many film credits including Working Girl, Born Yesterday, and Mulholland Falls.
